Auditions
This is an open invitation from CATCO to submit for our 2022-2023 Season.
CATCO is seeking Equity and non-Equity actors for our upcoming season.

August 6, 10 am – 3 pm | August 7, 10 am – 4 pm
Columbus Performing Arts Center (549 Franklin Avenue)
Appointments by appointment only, and are first come, first served at this link. Instead of bringing a hardcopy headshot and resume, please share your information here. Please be prepared to share a 1–2-minute contemporary monologue. If you don’t have a prepared monologue, you can read from one of the pieces here. You may also sing 16-32 bars from a selection of musical theatre or a pop or country song if you wish. An accompanist will be provided; please bring sheet music in a binder.
For in-person and video auditions, please slate to introduce yourself and your piece(s). Auditions will be reviewed by Artistic Director Leda Hoffmann and the season’s directors and music directors.

AEA CONTRACTS:

Non-Equity actors will be paid $260/week. Equity Membership Candidacy Points Available.

Indecent, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, is inspired by the controversy surrounding the play God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch, which was produced on Broadway in 1923.

Indecent, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, is a spirited and revolutionary love story that celebrates Yiddish language and literature. The play, inspired by the events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance, charts the history and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.
Note: The cast plays the troupe that steps in and out of various roles. All roles have singing parts, and singers of all levels are welcome.

9 To 5, The Musical follows three unlikely friends who take control of their office by concocting a plan to get even with their egotistical boss.

Based on the seminal 1980 hit movie, 9 To 5, The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, follows three unlikely friends who take control of their office by concocting a plan to get even with their egotistical boss. Together, the women learn there is nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world. This hilarious story of friendship and revenge is outrageous, thought-provoking, and a whole lot of fun.
Note: most characters will be doubled with actors playing multiple characters. All characters sing.

- Violet Newstead (she/her), 40s/50s/60s. Smart, efficient. The company’s Head Secretary. A mom of a teen.
- Doralee Rhodes (she/her), 20s/30s/40s. Kind, loyal. A country girl. People assume she’s a flirt because of her looks.
- Judy Bernly (she/her), 30s/40s/50s. In search of personal empowerment. The new girl at the company, entering the workforce after a divorce, is trying to figure out the world.
- Franklin Hart (he/him), 30s/40s/50s.The boss. A chauvinist. Smarmy, pompous, his own biggest fan
- Roz Keith (she/her), 30s/40s/50s/60s. Company snitch and second only to the boss.
- Maria Delgado (she/her), any age, Latina. Works in the office, fighting for equal pay.
- Kathy (she/her), 30s/40s/50s. Works in the office, loves gossip
- Missy Hart (she/her), 30s/40s/50s. Franklin Hart’s wife, strong-willed
- Margaret (she/her), any age. Works in the office, and has a drinking problem.
- Joe (he/him), 30s. Office accountant. Genuine, nice. Smitten with Violet.
- Josh (he/him), teens. Violet’s son
- Bob Enright (he/him), 20s/30s/40s/50s. The golden boy at the office
- Dwayne (he/him), 20s/30s/40s. Doralee’s husband. Supportive, kind.
- Dick (he/him), 30s/40s/50s. Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband.

This new play starts with four ten-year-olds who meet at a wedding. Little do they know this chance encounter will change their lives for decades to come. Jumping through time, the play uses dance, music, and poetry to explore sexuality, gender, race, and love. You know—Life stuff!

The Wolves, a portrait of teenage girlhood, follows 9 members of an indoor soccer team as they warm up, engage in banter and one-upmanship, and fight battles big and small with each other and themselves. By season’s and play’s end, amidst the wins and losses, rivalries and tragedies, they are warriors, tested and ready. They are The Wolves.
Note: While this text concerns a girls’ soccer team, we are seeking actors of all gender identities to play 16/17-year-old femme-presenting characters. Prior experience with soccer is not required, but confidence in learning physical skills will be an asset to those auditioning.

- #46 (she/her), 16. Bench. New girl, Awkward, different, just wants to fit in.
- #2 (she/her), 16. Defense. Innocent, unlucky, kind, skinny.
- #7 (she/her), almost 17. Striker. Too cool for school. Sarcastic, “fuck,” thick eyeliner.
- #14 (she/her), 16. Midfield. #7’s insecure sidekick. Just switched to contacts.
- #8 (she/her), 16. Defense. Childlike and determined to stay that way.
- #00 (she/her), 17. Goalie. Intense performance anxiety, perfectionist, high achiever.
- *Please note that #00 removes her shirt and appears in a sports bra.
- Soccer Mom (she/her), 40s/50s. Player’s Mom. Loves her daughter a whole lot.
