IN-SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

Our In-School Residency Program is a 20-week partnership with teachers and schools using theatre arts tools to help students connect more deeply with classroom lessons. Guided by our professional Artist Educators, students work with their classmates as a team to write, rehearse, produce and perform a script focusing on an academic subject chosen by the classroom teacher. The Program provides new pathways for students to learn and review an academic subject while enriching the classroom experience through access to theatre education. We work closely with our partner teachers and schools to ensure that all in-classroom sessions align with the Ohio State Learning Standards and meet the academic needs of each classroom. Students participating in The Contemporary’s In-School Residency Program also have time to practice social-emotional learning (SEL) skills like self-management and communication as they learn theatre arts skills. This program takes place during the school day from October to May and is designed for students in grades 2nd through 6th grade. Our Artist Educators work with students beyond 6th grade and in high school on a case-by-case basis. Most programs are 20 weeks in length, but the program can be modified or shortened as needed.
